Jonas Cambien's Maca Conu - #8 Sonde Records konsertserie

Konsertstart 19.00, detta är konsert nummer 8 i Sonde Records konsertserie. Med stöd från Malmö stad. Cleverly complex yet melodically embraceable, Maca Conu present a mix of astute, joyful and irrepressibly creative approaches to jazz. Hailing from Belgium but having called Oslo home since 2008, pianist and composer Jonas Cambien is both a progeny of and a formative influence on the city’s free jazz and improvisational scene. Maca Conu embodies Cambien’s astuteness in selecting and nurturing some of the most creative and dynamic actors in this landscape. The group features Signe Emmeluth on alto and tenor saxophones, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten on double bass, Andreas Wildhagen on drums, and cements the membership of trombonist Guro Kvåle, who featured on two tracks of their inaugural album. With their blistering spiritual free jazz, abstract meanderings, rebellious hooks, and robust live performances, Maca Conu has been amassing devotees. Cambien has a background in classical music as well as jazz, and focuses on contemporary music, free jazz and improvised music. Originally, there was the Jonas Cambien Trio, a band that was active for several years and released three albums on Clean Feed, a label that was at the core of adventurous jazz for over two decades. With Maca Conu, Cambien has aimed to carry forth and evolve the originality of the musical language that defined the Trio. In 2024, the group released their first self-titled album on Clean Feed. Maca Conu’s sophomore album, Popular Misconceptions (2026), is their first release on Sonic Transmissions, an Oslo-based label founded by the ensemble’s bassist, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten. And it’s only up from here, as we see Jonas Cambien’s Maca Conu landing confidently among the celestial echelons of exploratory jazz. https://jonascambien.com/macac...
