Lecture: How Contemporary Artists All Over the World Use the Digital TC2 Loom, with Vibeke Vestby

“I would like to draw the historical lines from the ancient Chinese drawlooms via industrial electronic jacquards to the development of the digital hand-operated TC2”. The TC2 name stands for Thread Controller, second generation. It is a tool for the creative stages of weaving, whether it is for rapid prototyping of functional fabrics or for the creation of unique art pieces Vibeke Vestby was a senior lecturer at the College of Art and Design in Oslo (Kunst och Handverksskolen i Oslo) from 1984-1997. In 1990-92 she got a government grant to develop a prototype hand jacquard loom. The grant was designed to encourage new use of information technology in the arts and crafts, especially focusing on women and traditional crafts. Vibeke Vestby is a TC2 manager at Tronrud Engineering Moss. The lecture will be held in English. The fall 2026 lecture series, with the theme “pattern drawings,” is organized by the K. A.
