Reformaten's Film Club shows "Reclaiming Cocoa"!

Reclaiming Cocoa: Meet the Ghanaians Changing Chocolate After two sold-out screenings, Reformaten now shows - in collaboration with the French film festival Alimenterre , and as a part of the European Days of Action - a documentary asking the question: the world loves chocolate, but can cocoa be produced in a way that truly benefits nature, farmers, and communities where the cocoa is frown? Ghana produces around 25% of the world's cocoa, but for over a century, the profits were reaped far away in Europe while local farmers and communities saw little of the reward. The world needs new systems where farmers and workers receive a fair share of the value they help create, and Reclaiming Cocoa introduces us to the people helping shape a sustainable and just future of cocoa: Jeanne Donkoh (Bioko Treats), who started making chocolate on her kitchen table and now sells high-end made in Ghana chocolates Nana Aduna II (Ohene Cocoa), turning his farm into an educative platform where visitors learn the real history of cocoa Tutuwa Ahwoi (Nokware Skincare), turning cocoa butter into cosmetics using her grandmother's recipes Koa , a Swiss-Ghanaian start-up finding value in cocoa pulp once thrown away as waste Yayra Glover , an organic cocoa pioneer who built a fairer livelihood system for his farmers The film doesn't shy away from the hard truths: from child labor and corruption to a colonial history dating back to Swiss missionaries. Reclaiming Cocoa shows us how the system is rigged in favor of European chocolate corporations and against cocoa producers, but also how a generation of Ghanaian innovators are already building fair and sustainable alternatives, right now!
