FLIRTATIOUSNESS AND POLITENESSWorkshop by Norhaizad AdamWhat does it mean to flirt politely?How do our bodies navigate between restraint and desire?The Flirtatiousness and Politeness workshop, led by choreographer and performer Norhaizad Adam, invites participants to explore the delicate interplay between attraction, decorum, and social grace.In this movement-based session, we examine how cultural codes and technological devices shape the ways we present ourselves, project intimacy, and perform courtship. From the subtle charm of traditional forms to the digital spaces we navigate daily — whether through sending telebubbles, posting thirst traps, or managing our online personas — how do our bodies and devices accentuate or inform the way we flirt? Guided by basic Malay dance vocabulary, this workshop opens a playful and reflective space to embody emotions ranging from restraint to bold, libidinal expression.No prior dance experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to move. About the ArtistNorhaizad Adam is a Singaporean dance artist and performance maker. Trained in Malay folk dance, he has developed a post-dance practice that interrogates how nationalism and traditionalism shape the Malay body. His works blur the rules and transmission of Malay folk forms, subverting dominant frameworks through which minority identity is constructed and sustained. Norhaizad is the Artistic Director of P7:1SMA Ltd, where he continues to expand the possibilities of performance as a site of cultural resistance, embodiment and reimagination. This workshop is presented as part of Codependent Curricular Activities, an artist takeover programme presented and produced by ToNewEntities, and curated by Rafi Abdullah. The programme is supported by the National Arts Council's Arts x Tech Lab initiative. The Lab nurtures Singapore's arts x tech community, driving new artistic endeavours and bridging arts and technology conversations to develop Singapore's vibrant arts scene.
