Event description Using Courts for Social Change Ever wondered how a single court case can change the rules for everyone? At the Asser Institute, we are pulling back the curtain on how lawyers, communities, and NGOs use the courtroom as a tool for social change. Join us for a panel discussion with speakers from the Asser Institute and NGOs who have taken real cases to court on issues such as gender equality and the legality of arms exports. You will hear directly from the people building these cases: why they chose litigation, what it took to win (or lose), and what changed afterward for the communities involved. Whether you are a law student, a curious neighbour, or someone who's never set foot in a courtroom, bring your curiosity and your questions for the panellists. Stick around afterward for a relaxed networking reception. The whole event is family friendly, so feel free to bring the kids along. For one special Sunday in September, ahead of the International Day of Peace, Just Peace The Hague and more than 20 partners will open their doors to you for a look behind the scenes and to hear the stories of the people and history behind each institution. Evenementbeschrijving Rechtbanken als middel voor maatschappelijke verandering Heb je je ooit afgevraagd hoe één enkele rechtszaak de regels voor iedereen kan veranderen? Bij het Asser Instituut laten we zien hoe advocaten, gemeenschappen en ngo's de rechtszaal inzetten als instrument voor maatschappelijke verandering. Kom naar onze paneldiscussie met sprekers van het Asser Instituut en ngo's die rechtszaken hebben gevoerd over kwesties als gendergelijkheid en de rechtmatigheid van wapenexport. Je hoort rechtstreeks van de mensen achter deze zaken: waarom ze kozen voor een juridische procedure, wat er nodig was om te winnen (of te verliezen) en wat er daarna veranderde voor de betrokken gemeenschappen. Of je nu rechtenstudent bent, een nieuwsgierige buurtbewoner of iemand die nog nooit een rechtszaal vanbinnen heeft gezien: neem je nieuwsgierigheid en je vragen voor de panelleden mee.
