Medication Administration Training (MAT) - October 2026

The MAT Independent Study Course is a competency-based, 8-hour course that trains individuals to safely administer medication in NYS child day care programs. It is comprised of two parts: an online portion and an in-person practice and testing session. The online portion must be completed before meeting with an approved MAT Trainer for the hands-on practice and testing session. The training includes how to: 1) Identify, apply and match the Five Rights of safe medication administration. 2) Apply the NYS OCFS child day care regulations pertaining to medication administration, including appropriate permissions and instructions and safe medication storage 3) Prepare and administer medication properly via various routes and with appropriate administration tools, and document the administration of medication 4) Identify and appropriately respond to adverse reactions to medication, medication errors, chronic health conditions such as asthma, and emergency medical situations such as anaphylaxis Successful completion of a MAT course is required to administer medication in a child day care program.
