Full description from organizer

Each month we get to know one another by watching & discussing some of the greatest queer films with wonderful snacks/beverages Q-MoB Queer Men's Film Salon (Old Chatham, NY) 1st Fridays, 6-9pm 115 White Bridge Rd Old Chatham, NY 12136 In this film salon we watch queer films we love because they were important in staking out new ways of representing queer love and/or helped propel the conversation about queer liberation in popular culture. Many of the films we love were important historically because they defied stereotypes or insisted on representing the diversity of queer love and culture. Some of the films were controversial or scandalous when they aired but have come to be seen as prescient or revolutionary. We also choose more currently released films that we think are telling compelling stories about diverse aspects of queer love or liberation. Most of all we choose films that we hope will inspire interesting conversation among the men who see them together -- so we get to know one another better by sharing about the feelings, memories, and connections the films make to our own lives. We use the art of films to learn more about who we are and what we value. Our Film Salon invites men of diverse ages, ethnicities, backgrounds, geographies, & histories to watch films about the diversity of our community so we can become better acquainted with one another and the many paths that lead us together. WHAT TO BRING: • Snacks & beverages to share with the group • Your ideas about great queer films you would like the group to watch in future months • Suggested $10-$20 Tax-Deductible Donaton to support Q-MoB's efforts to provide more than 30 activities for rural queer men throughout the 8 counties in 4 states that make up the Greater Berkshire Region, unless you are low-income (in which case just donate what you can afford or nothing but your presence), are a Q-MoB Monthly Donor (who get to attend all Q-MoB events FREE, or this is the very first time you have come to a Q-MoB event, in which case be our guest. He spent two seasons at the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, appearing in Timon of Athens and Our Town. He worked for the International Theater of Vienna, touring Austria, Switzerland, and Germany in The Glass Menagerie and Of Mice and Men. He taught theater for college and high school students and began working as a stage director. For Theater in Motion, he took part in disability awareness workshops and residencies with New York City schoolchildren. He portrayed Ken Talley, Jr. in Lanford Wilson’s Fifth of July for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Portland. In 2015, he began his affiliation with Theater Breaking Through Barriers, a company that highlights the talents of performers with disabilities, playing Julian Farrar in Agatha Christie’s The Unexpected Guest. He was a member of the ensemble in Brecht on Brecht, which played off-Broadway as well as at the Bird International Theater Festival in Tottori, Japan. He is currently appearing off-Broadway in Transcendency Rising, an evening of short plays about defying limitations. ABOUT THE QUEER MEN'S FILM SALON: Our film salon group will figure out which films we want to watch, and we'll certainly be considering important queer films that many of us may not have seen or want to see again. We tend to choose films that have changed queer history and how queer people view themselves and are seen by the broader society. We also tend to choose films that inspire us to think and feel differently about what is important in our lives and community. We like films that show us who we are, while also inviting us to think more deeply or broadly about who we could be as individuals and as a community moving towards liberation. DONATE OR BECOME A MONTHLY SUSTAINING MEMBER: Please donate $10-$20 to help assure Q-MoB can continue to offer more than 20 activities & multiple resources & services to rural queer men all over the region.
