Wild Clay Making Session & Kiln Build — An Expedition in Wild Clay

Get your hands on wild clay dug right from the ground and make something small while watching a primitive kiln being built from scratch! This is the making session our "Expedition in Wild Clay" has been leading up to! On Saturday, September 19, Main Street Studio will be buzzing with activity. Outside, ceramic artist and educator Jordan Becker will be leading the construction of a primitive kiln — built from clay we dug ourselves right from the ground in West Glenville. Inside, the studio will be open for hands-on making sessions where local ceramic artists will be on hand to guide you as you work with that same wild clay and create something small to be fired in the kiln. This is a rare opportunity to connect with where clay actually comes from — not a bag from an art supply store, but real earth dug from the fields and stream banks of our area. You don't need any experience. You just need curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty. All of the small sculptures and pots made during these sessions will be fired at the studio and displayed at our Wild Clay Reception & Auction on Saturday, October 17, 5:00–9:00pm at Main Street Studio. All pieces will be auctioned off at the reception as a fundraiser for Main Street Studio — come back to see what the fire did to your piece and bid on your favorites!
