State regulations require the course to be taught in person by an approved instructor and completed within 12 months prior to applying for a Level One Security Guard registration. Course Topics Include: • Qualifications and responsibilities of a New Mexico Security Guard • Professional ethics and standards of conduct • New Mexico criminal and civil law • Legal authority and limitations of security personnel • Trespassing laws and property rights • Observation, documentation, and incident reporting • Patrol techniques and situational awareness • Conflict resolution and verbal de-escalation • Introduction to the Use of Force Continuum • Search and seizure considerations • Civil liability and risk management • Emergency response and mental preparedness • Practical exercises, role-playing scenarios, and written examination Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion, students will receive a Department-approved Level One Training Certificate, satisfying the training requirement to apply for a New Mexico Level One Security Guard Registration through the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department.
