Her connection to Portuguese music and culture, however, began much earlier. The daughter of parents born on the island of Terceira in the Azores, Alison grew up immersed in Portuguese traditions, including Fado, Cantoria, and Carnaval. Her love of Fado began at the age of seven, when her grandmother taught her her first Fado, “O Xaile de Minha Mãe.” Since then, Fado has remained an important part of Alison’s life and artistic journey. Through regular visits to Terceira and her continued connection to her family’s heritage, she has developed a deep appreciation for the music, traditions, and culture of Portugal. Alison has had the opportunity to share Fado with audiences in California, Terceira, Lisbon, and Canada. She is honored to perform at the Residence of the Ambassador of Portugal on December 3 and looks forward to sharing her love of Fado and Portuguese culture with the evening’s guests.
