DanceWest: Monstro City

A dance performance inspired by monsters and folklore brought to life by student performers in Anchorage, Alaska This fall, DanceWest proudly premieres its original full-length dance production, Monstro City - an imaginative adventure filled with unforgettable characters, breathtaking visuals, and a powerful story about courage, hope, and the strength of community. In the divided metropolis of Monstro City, strict laws have kept seven monster districts apart for centuries, preventing them from living, learning, and growing together. When beloved educator Max Gray dares to challenge the city’s powerful mayor, Daemon Deville, long-buried secrets begin to surface. As fear spreads throughout the city and an ancient darkness is unleashed, a courageous group of young monsters discovers that empathy, friendship, and unity may be the only forces powerful enough to save their home. Filled with extraordinary costumes, larger-than-life creatures, cinematic projections, dynamic lighting, and powerful choreography, Monstro City promises an unforgettable theatrical experience for audiences of all ages. Through dance, this production explores timely themes of fear, belonging, acceptance, and the courage to stand together in the face of division.
