Silicon South Workforce Accelerator: Career Pathways with Microsoft

The Silicon South Foundation, in partnership with Microsoft, is launching the Silicon South Workforce Accelerator, an initiative designed to expand access to industry-recognized technology credentials, professional development, and workforce opportunities for emerging talent across the South. This inaugural Accelerator experience will connect college students with Microsoft professionals for an interactive afternoon focused on career exploration, professional readiness, and pathways into the technology industry. Participants will gain firsthand insight into Microsoft, explore career opportunities available across a range of academic disciplines and professional fields, and learn how to better position themselves for competitive internships and early-career opportunities. The experience will include conversations with Microsoft professionals, small-group engagement, and practical guidance on navigating the application and hiring process. Programming will feature: Career Pathways at Microsoft — An introduction to Microsoft, relevant academic pathways, and the breadth of careers available across the company and technology sector. Professional Perspectives Panel — Microsoft professionals from different disciplines will share their career journeys, experiences, and advice for entering the industry. Career Breakout Sessions — Smaller conversations designed to give students deeper access to professionals and the opportunity to explore specific career interests. Copilot-Powered Application & ATS Readiness — A specialized, hands-on training led by a Microsoft professional demonstrating how students can leverage Microsoft Copilot to strengthen resumes and application materials, better understand applicant tracking systems (ATS), prepare for interviews, and strategically navigate the internship and early-career application process. Pathways to Opportunity — Participants will leave with actionable next steps and will be encouraged to explore and apply for relevant Microsoft internship opportunities. Designed primarily for college juniors and seniors, this experience goes beyond a traditional career workshop by creating direct connections between emerging talent and industry professionals while equipping students with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to pursue opportunities in technology.
