Fueling Illinois' Freight Future: The New Rules of the Road

A one-day technology-neutral, multi-fuel summit for the fleets, ports, warehouses, and partners who keep Illinois moving. The Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation (IACT) will host Fueling Illinois' Freight Future: A Multi-Fuel Policy, Planning & Stakeholder Engagement Summit on Thursday, February 25, 2027, at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet — in the heart of North America's largest inland port. The summit brings together the people who move Illinois' freight to explore the full range of transportation-energy options through a practical, technology-neutral lens. Illinois is one of the nation's largest freight hubs, moving 1.3 billion tons of cargo valued at $1.6 trillion each year. As fleets, warehouses, ports, and intermodal operators weigh their fuel and infrastructure choices, IACT continues to serve as an unbiased knowledge partner — helping operators make sound economic decisions rather than promoting any single technology. The summit will examine biodiesel, renewable diesel, ethanol, propane, natural gas and renewable natural gas, electricity, and hydrogen side by side, connecting each to what matters most for Illinois: energy security through domestic, diversified fuels; a competitive freight economy that supports Illinois jobs and producers; and cleaner air in the corridors and communities where freight moves. The day will feature educational presentations, an agency panel, facilitated breakout sessions, a hands-on technology showcase, and structured networking. The policy and funding sessions are offered solely to educate fleets on the landscape they operate in — helping them understand programs, incentives, and options so they can make sound decisions.
