This design features a unique “basket weave” pattern created through careful layout, precision milling, and multiple glue-ups using contrasting hardwoods. Over the course of two days, students will gain experience in: • Selecting and preparing hardwoods for cutting board construction • Creating repeating patterns through strategic cutting and layout • Proper glue-up techniques for multi-stage projects • Flattening and surfacing end-grain boards • Routing, edge treatments, and final shaping • Sanding and applying a food-safe finish Project Details Each participant will complete a durable, heirloom-quality end-grain cutting board featuring a woven pattern similar to the sample shown. The finished board will highlight contrasting species to emphasize the geometric design and provide long-lasting performance in the kitchen. Day Breakdown Day 1: • Material selection and milling • Initial glue-up and strip cutting • Pattern layout and preparation for final assembly Day 2: • Final glue-up creating the woven pattern • Flattening and trimming • Edge profiling, sanding, and finishing Skill Level This class is suitable for beginner to intermediate woodworkers. No prior experience with end-grain projects is required, but a basic familiarity with shop tools is helpful.
