Michelle Shocked: “Michelle Shocked is a true trailblazer who knows how to play with fire” — Rolling Stone Forty years after her legendary bootleg debut, the Grammy winner returns with a vengeance. An acclaimed singer/songwriter generating compelling lyrics and mneumonic melodies for over 40 years, Shocked was thrust into an inadvertent recording career in the '80's by a bootleg tape published in England. In the ensuing bidding war following the phenomena of The Texas Campfire tapes, standing her ground, she retained ownership of both recording masters and song copyrights, and produced a trilogy of Grammy-nominated albums over the next five years, launched by her signature song, “Anchorage.” As a consequence, she was blacklisted for 5 years; unable to record or leave the label. Finally, in 2002 she was free to launch her own independent label, Mighty Sound, reissuing her entire catalog. But once again, in 2013 she was blacklisted; a target of a relentless, widespread defamation campaign. An act of defiance -- this tour is breaking the blacklist, disturbing the silence. Balanced and battle-bitten, slinging stories and songs set carefully like stones; tales of media misadventures fused by a fusillade of human emotion. Calm, confident, and controlled with a lethal focus. The story of her 13-year struggle to survive is a fascinating tale of creative resilience. Activist & Musician Michelle Shocked emerges with the release of her audio memoir, Bootleg This! https://michelleshocked.supercast.com/ “You can't take the art out of the artist. Creative labor has value; stolen art has potent power. I knew it would work — I just didn't know it would work so well." – Michelle Shocked Website: http://michelleshocked.com/ and https://linktr.ee/michelleshockedContact: [email protected]
