Amplify Collective (formally Thrive St. Choir) featuring KT & Jay for September Community Sing

ACCESSIBILITY: The location is a ~30 minute walk from public transportation (closest stop is El Cerrito Plaza on BART). This event will be held indoors. There are 25 stairs leading up to the home and has a steep driveway. Low-scent (but not scent free space). The home has one cat that stays inside once it's dark out. You are welcome but not required to wear a mask. Ventilation + air purifier available. Please do not attend if you have any symptoms of any contagious illness. TICKETS: Sliding Scale: $10-30 PGM/BIPOC Tickets: $10-15 All other tickets: $15-30 EQUINOX SONG RITUAL: As the light begins to yield to the dark and the wheel turns toward Autumn, we gather to do what our ancestors have always done — mark the turning of the season. In this moment, we will do so with song. The Autumn Equinox is a threshold moment: a time of harvest and release. Additionally, across many cultures and throughout time, this turning has been understood as marking the beginning of the thinning of the veil — a season when the boundary between the seen and the unseen grows more permeable. The ancestors draw closer. The dreams deepen. The inner world asks to be tended. We invite you to bring a small altar item that feels alive with this season for you — something from your garden or the land, something golden or dying or ripe, something that speaks to what you are harvesting or releasing in your own life, or an offering to those who have gone before. SONG LEADERS: KT ~ (she/her) is a ritualist, soul tender, and community weaver drawn to the places where song, healing, and ancestral remembrance converge. KT understands collective voice as a pathway home — to the body, to one another, and to the living world to which we belong. JAY ~ (they/them) is a song carrier, group facilitator, community organizer and cultural worker focused on intergenerational & relational healing. jay understands collective singing as a vital tool for movement building, social change — and a means of fostering community togetherness. ABOUT AMPLIFY COLLECTIVE (formally Thrive St. Choir) Why Community Singing? AMPLIFY Collective believes that amplifying our voices in the world is an act of social strength and resistance to forces of domination. We come together to harmonize, listen and gather our collective resilience. Amplify Collective facilitates community singing events & hosts song leaders (local and from visiting bioregions) who carry a focus on music as a practice of resistance and liberation. Our street team organizes to support bringing groups to actions/movements to sing and bring our voices to the streets! This group is for all those who want to sing during these times -- no previous singing experience is necessary 🎶 This space honors the knoweldge that community singing is a vulnerable and courageous act - we welcome imperfection and mutual learning. AC recognizes we all come into these spaces with different lived experiences, backgrounds, histories and identities. We do not assume we will all feel the same in these circles. We welcome you to come into this space authentically and performance-free. We uplift the voices of folks of the global majority, queer/trans/gender-nonconforming folks and honor the cultural significance of songs with respect of their history, tradition and lineage.
