Halloween Hike on Devil Mountain

Join Greenbelt Alliance for a spirited pre-Halloween walk in Mount Diablo State Park! In this family-friendly walk, we'll stroll up Mitchell Canyon in search of witches' broom, devil's horns, ghost pines, and other scary and not-so-scary signs of the season. But first, we'll meet the famous 8-legged diva, Scarlett O'Harry (a tarantula), examine the skins and skulls of some of our native Bay Area fauna, and hear the tale of Bully Ingram, a pirate who jumped ship and took up residence in a cave near Mitchell Canyon! TOTAL DISTANCE This is an easy hike of two miles round-trip with little elevation change. LEADERS Liz Watson. WEATHER POLICY Rain cancels. COST $6 per vehicle park entrance fee ($5 for seniors). Liz holds a California naturalist certification from UC Extension and volunteers for the Peregrine Falcon team in Mount Diablo State Park.
