Experience Mickey Avalon’s energetic live show, forged through personal tragedy and triumph, in person at Vinnies. Micky Avalon and Tiger Shade at Vinnies is an energetic, in-person event open to the general public. About the event Mickey Avalon’s life has been marked by personal tragedy, triumphs, and immense pain. Raised on the streets of Hollywood by his heroin-addicted father, he began selling pot at a young age, a trade he learned from his mother. In his late teens, he converted to Orthodox Judaism in an effort to change direction, but family tragedy—including his father’s death in a drunk-driving accident—disrupted that effort. In his early 20s, Avalon married, had a daughter, and moved to Portland, Oregon. His Hollywood lifestyle followed him, and he developed a heroin addiction. Broke and divorced, he turned to prostitution to support his habit. He moved in with his sister as they tried to recover, but she relapsed and died of a heroin overdose. After losing his father and sister, Avalon returned to Los Angeles and made another attempt to get his life on track. There, ex-MTV VJ Simon Rex, also known as Dirt Nasty, encouraged him to pursue hip-hop and collaborated with him on tracks. While Avalon lived in a sober facility with a strict curfew, Rex passed out his demo at Hollywood clubs, helping him build a following in the local nightclub scene. Avalon went on to sell out clubs across California with his live show, and Interscope Records took notice of his guerrilla promotion tactics.
