Get ready to celebrate and show some love for our leafy friends at the 5th annual tree-loving bash and native tree giveaway A free event and a FREE NATIVE TREE for Homewood residents! Do you want to do something that makes a positive impact to our ecosytem and climate ? Join us November 7th, 2026 to learn about Homewood's beneficial native trees and how they can improve our ecosystem in so many ways. We can work together to make a difference one tree at a time. Participants will have a chance to hear from local tree experts, talk with members of the Homewood Environmental Commission and other groups tabling the event. Grab some tree swag while enjoying fall weather, complimentary coffee, and treats! A native tree will be given to participants (one per address please!) after getting their event card stamped by at least 4 community partners. REGISTER TODAY. It's absolutely free!!! Please note: 1) Register for ONE Tree per Homewood property AND in-person attendance is required. 2) Tree selection will take place during online registration - varieties available on a first-come, first-served basis. Container size varies by tree species; trees will be provided in 3-, 5-, or 7-gallon containers. 3) Choosing which tree is best for you requires you to do your homework. How to choose a tree? Start by choosing where you would like to plant your tree. Consider the amount of sunlight the area receives, how wet or dry the soil tends to be, and the type of soil. These conditions will help you determine which tree is the best fit for your yard. Also think about the tree’s mature size. Canopy trees generally need plenty of sunlight and room to grow, including adequate space away from overhead utility lines. Understory trees are smaller and are often well suited to areas with partial shade or filtered sunlight beneath taller trees. Choosing a tree that matches the conditions of your planting site will give it the best chance to thrive for many years. 4) Consider your ability to care for your tree over time. Newly planted trees need extra attention, especially during the first year, followed by regular care and monitoring for any problems. Come join the fun!! This is a family-friendly event. Bring the kids and let them learn how to plant their own tree and make a difference one tree at a time. Can't wait to see you there! You may need a truck or trailer for transport. **Please note: You must attend the event in person to receive the tree!**
