Bird and Nature Walk around Long Pond, Winchester

Observe birds, wildflowers, trees, and possibly fungi near the trails around Long Pond. Difficulty: Moderate/Easy Appropriate for: Beginning and Intermediate Birders Leaders: Tinie Noordzij and Julia Osborne About Tinie and Julia: Tinie and Julia have extensive experience as guides for Winchester Trails, which provides nature walks for Winchester school children. Tinie was trained as a nature guide in the US and the Netherlands, with a special interest in birds. Julia holds a masters in ecology and completed Mass Audubon’s Birder Certificate program. About the Walk: Join us as we explore the trails around Long Pond, looking for fall migrants and resident birds, wildflowers, and fungi. We’ll also keep an eye out for resident birds such as goldfinches, nuthatches, and woodpeckers. We’ll practice using bark, leaves, fruits, and other characteristics to identify common trees. And if conditions are right, we may find some mushrooms. This walk is appropriate for beginning and intermediate birders. Please bring binoculars if you have them. We’ll meet at the Hillcrest entrance to the Long Pond nature trail, opposite 100 Hillcrest Parkway, Winchester. Steady rain or stormy wind cancels. ** Please be mindful and register if you are absolutely able to attend this walk.
