Suitcase Junket Julia Read is a songwriter and musician living in Western Mass. Read’s original music ranges from haunting to theatrical to self-parodic. Her voice moves river-like through landscapes of the mundane and mystical, seeking range, surprise, and alchemy. Read is a classically trained violinist and has toured internationally and played on studio recordings with various musicians. Read is also a performer, with a background in clowning and improv, and is a founding member of the theatre collective The Royal Frog Ballet. She loves to sing with others, especially Georgian music, and currently performs with Doozy Jane, a quartet rooted in traditions of American harmony singing and swingy string bands.
