Full description from organizer

Join Chef Bernadina for a hands-on culinary experience and learn how to make Molotes Oaxaqueños, a beloved traditional dish from Oaxaca, Mexico. Molotes are crispy, stuffed corn masa turnovers, typically filled with ingredients such as potatoes, cheese, or beans, and served with fresh toppings and salsa. This flavorful dish reflects the rich culinary heritage and vibrant traditions of Oaxacan cuisine. As you cook, Chef Bernadina will share stories from her life, her Oaxacan roots, and her passion for preserving cultural traditions through food. Through her personal experiences and knowledge of regional cooking, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for the history, family connections, and community that shape Mexican cuisine. The class concludes with a shared meal featuring the Molotes you've prepared, celebrating culture, community, and connection through the joy of cooking and eating together. About Chef Bernardina : Oaxaca, Mexico was my home until I moved to the United States in 2007. When you ask me about my favorite foods, I have many of them but I would say that these are my favorites: Beef Soup, Tamales and fresh homemade Tortillas. I was about 12 years old when my mother taught me how to cook. I never worked in the food industry when I lived in Mexico, but since I have come to the US I first worked in fast food restaurants and then I switched to higher level American restaurants for almost 10 years. I chose this program because my passion for learning about food never ends. I like to try foods from different cultures and to share my own culture as well. This program offered the support that I was looking for to prepare myself to be more professional. After graduation I will look for new job opportunities but I really hope to have my own bakery in the future. Learn more about Sanctuary Kitchen's cooking classes at cityseed.org/cooking-classes
