Tour of the Charles Ives Birthplace Museum

Tour the birthplace of Charles Ives: musical maverick, father of American classical music, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer. Tours are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday at 10:30 am. Tours originate at the Ives Birthplace Museum located at 5 Mountainville Avenue, and take roughly 60-75 minutes. We ask that visitors do not knock on the doors on non-tour days as there is a tenant onsite. "The music of Charles Ives, which on first acquaintance generally strikes listeners as willfully eccentric, grew from a 'long foreground' as Emerson said of Walt Whitman's equally eccentric Leaves of Grass. Ives well understood how insistently the past remained present in his work." --Jan Swafford, Charles Ives, A Life With Music. Take a guided tour of the birthplace of Danbury's Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Charles Edward Ives. Learn about the sights and sounds that influenced Ives, as well as the Danbury he would have known so well as a young man. The great impact of the Ives family on Danbury history is explored here as well. We are most grateful for our generous benefactor, Ives Bank, for making the re-opening of the Ives Birthplace possible!
