Full description from organizer

A Night in Sudan brings Sudanese food, music, film, literature, henna, and interactive exhibits to Chicago while supporting mutual aid. A Night in Sudan: An Immersive Cultural ExperienceEver been curious about Sudanese culture? The food, the music, the weddings, the stories beyond the headlines? This is your chance. On November 14, we’re bringing pieces of Sudan to Chicago for an evening of food, music, film, literature, and interactive exhibits while supporting children’s education and Sudanese-led mutual aid. Part pop-up museum, part community gathering, A Night in Sudan invites you to explore rooms filled with cultural exhibits, storytelling, and hands-on experiences. Meet the Sudanese artists, organizers, educators, and culture shakers bringing it all together. Start with a complimentary mocktail and Sudanese hors d’oeuvres, grab your event passport, and follow your curiosity. Collect stamps as you explore the stations, then receive a gift when you complete your passport. What will you discover? • The Sudanese Table: Explore our food, drinks, recipes, and the traditions that bring people around a shared table. • Music, Art & Storytelling: Discover Sudanese sounds and creative expression, and meet the people sharing and shaping our culture. • Film & Literature: Spend time with Sudanese films, poetry, books, and stories that offer a window into our lives and imagination. • Wedding Traditions, Henna & Scents: Explore jirtig and wedding customs, enjoy henna, and experience the scents woven into our homes and celebrations. • History & Resistance: Learn about struggles for freedom, community organizing, and the ways Sudanese people preserve culture and care for one another. • The Living Archive: Explore Sudan’s diverse communities, crafts, everyday objects, and family memories. Add your own story or connection to the archive. Take your time. Ask questions. Try something new. There will also be Sudanese food and cultural goods available for purchase, opportunities to support Sudanese creatives and community initiatives across the diaspora, and raffles featuring experiences and other prizes. Why we’re doing this Sudan is experiencing what the United Nations has described as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. Yet our people’s suffering continues to receive far too little attention. For those of us trying to support loved ones and stay connected to home, that neglect adds so much suffering. It deepens the grief of watching our communities endure war, displacement, and loss while struggling to get the world to care. We want to humanize ourselves by sharing our lives in our own words: what we love, what makes us laugh, how we celebrate, and what we’re working to preserve. These exhibits hold pieces of our lives, memories, and the communities that shaped us. Creating this evening is one way we’re reclaiming some agency. We’re telling our own stories, bringing people together, and supporting Sudanese-led mutual aid alongside the cultural and community work happening throughout our diaspora. Your ticket supports children and families in Sudan. Funds raised will support a school in Arbaji, Al Gezira State, Sudan, which also functions as a community center. The fundraiser supports children’s educational initiatives and mutual aid for the surrounding community, helping sustain a place where children learn and families gather. Throughout the evening, you’ll also have opportunities to connect with and support Sudanese artists, organizers, educators, and small businesses carrying this work forward in the diaspora. Everyone is welcome. Come solo, bring a friend, or invite someone who loves food, museums, music, and discovering something new. • Date: Saturday, November 14, 2026 • Location: For Real Therapy, Chicago • Included with admission: A complimentary mocktail, Sudanese hors d’oeuvres, and a gift when you complete your passport • Available for purchase: Sudanese food and cultural goods • Throughout the evening: Immersive exhibits, cultural experiences, henna, community connections, and raffles • Organized by: Members of Chicago’s Sudanese community • Hosted by: For Real Therapy • Sponsored by: NeuroBloom Mental Health Collective Get your ticket, share the invitation, and come explore Sudan with us.
