Lights on Afterschool at Gary Comer Youth Center

Experience GCYC through interactive, youth-led activities that showcase the creativity, leadership, and talent of our young people. Join us as Gary Comer Youth Center proudly participates in Lights On Afterschool, the nation's largest rally for afterschool programs and the young people they serve. This special open house invites community members, partners, supporters, families, and friends to experience GCYC through the eyes of our youth. Throughout the evening, young people from each of our core program areas will lead interactive activations that showcase their learning, creativity, leadership, and growth. Rather than watching presentations, guests will engage directly with the experiences that make GCYC a transformative place for thousands of young people each year. From STEM and arts to college and career readiness, athletics, and leadership development, visitors will discover how afterschool programs help young people build skills, confidence, and connections that prepare them for brighter futures. What to Expect • Interactive, youth-led experiences throughout the building • Opportunities to meet and learn from GCYC participants • A behind-the-scenes look at our programs and impact • Conversations with staff, families, and community partners • Light refreshments and networking Why Lights On Afterschool? Every child deserves access to safe, enriching opportunities beyond the school day. Lights On Afterschool is a national celebration that raises awareness about the critical role afterschool and summer programs play in supporting academic success, leadership development, and overall well-being. By joining us, you're helping shine a light on the importance of investing in young people and the programs that help them thrive. Admission is free, but registration is encouraged. Come see what's possible when young people are given the space, support, and opportunity to lead.
