The smallest canvas you may ever hold in your hand. The Shell Canvas is a small seasonal art workshop built around a surprisingly challenging surface: a prepared hollow eggshell. Eighteen participants spend the morning turning hollow decorative shells into miniature works of art. You may explore small painted details, seasonal patterns, color studies, repeated motifs, or-if you meet the age requirement-a guided resist-design technique. No previous painting experience is required. The emphasis is on slowing down, working carefully, and seeing how much visual detail can fit onto one very small surface. At the end of the session, the room becomes a temporary Egg Gallery so participants can view and photograph the finished pieces before safely packing their own artwork for transport. WHO CAN ATTEND The workshop is open to participants ages 8 and older. Participants ages 8–15 must attend with a ticketed adult. Every person participating inside the workshop area must hold an in-person ticket. For example: One adult + one child = two in-person tickets. This keeps the live workshop within its 18-participant capacity. TWO TECHNIQUE TRACKS MINIATURE PAINTING - AGES 8+ This beginner-friendly track focuses on painting directly onto a prepared hollow shell. Participants may explore: • Small floral motifs • Geometric patterns • Dots and line work • Borders • Seasonal illustration • Simple layered color • Repeating patterns The instructor demonstrates ways to stabilize and rotate the shell while working. GUIDED RESIST DESIGN - AGES 16+ Participants ages 16 and older may choose a more detailed resist-based design track, subject to station capacity. The instructor introduces concepts such as: • Planning a resist pattern • Creating controlled resist marks • Building color around protected areas • Revealing the visual pattern • Developing repeated motifs Any equipment or material requiring elevated temperature is controlled within the designated instructor-supervised station. Participants under 16 do not handle heated equipment. No open flame is used as part of the advertised workshop format. CHOOSING YOUR TRACK Participants choose their preferred track during the opening portion of the event. Guests ages 8–15 participate in Miniature Painting. Guests ages 16+ may choose either track, subject to available station capacity. THE SHELLS The workshop uses prepared hollow eggshells intended only for decorative art. No raw eggs are cracked or emptied during the live workshop. The shells are art materials. They are not food and should not be eaten or reused for food preparation. Because eggshells are fragile, damaged shells may be removed from use. PATTERN PLANNING CARD Before beginning the full design, choose: ONE VISUAL DIRECTION What should the artwork feel like?
