A house party for our Kin. Ft. Hip Hop Legend Pete Rock Before there were galas, there were rent parties. Black communities lifting themselves through culture and radical mutual aid dressed as a good time. We didn't ask permission. Nobody waited for an institution to validate the need. We (the people) were the institution. The village showed up, paid the rent, and kept each other alive through joy. And we looked good doing it. That is the origin of what we call the house party today: Black economic resilience and love. AFRO — Art for the Rest of Ours — carries that same spirit. A house party for Our Art. Our culture. Our Kin. It embodies the joy, talent, and resilience, into a gathering of radical love. This is Maroon Arts Group's 10th anniversary celebration, and the first of what we intend to be an annual gathering: built for the people who have kept Sanctuary alive for a decade. The artists, the neighbors, the funders, the first-timers, and everyone who has ever called MAG a friend of Fam. It's not a gala or a ball, but we are going to have a ball! Doors open at 6pm, with the show beginning at 6:30 with Hot 8 Brass Band. Starting at 8pm, the building opens into rooms built for the night — poetry, hip-hop, and jazz running side by side through 10pm — before everyone gathers in the ballroom, where DJ Bern, SoniccBlush, and hip-hop legend Pete Rock carry us through the close of ten years. Maroon Arts Group is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Proceeds from AFRO support MAG's ongoing work delivering Black art, culture, and Sanctuary in the King-Lincoln Bronzeville neighborhood. Ticket purchases are not tax-deductible, as they represent payment for goods and services (entry, entertainment, and hospitality). All sales are final. No refunds or exchanges.
