Home is the Outdoors: Edible Hike and Nature Learning

The outdoors is meant to feel like home. Spend a morning with us learning how to find and taste wild edible plants. Home is the Outdoors is our annual day of learning more about how to engage in the outdoors with guided exploration, hands-on activities, and time with people who get it. Whether you're new to nature or looking for a community to explore it with, this morning is for you. Brought to you by the BLK Beetles Collective, this experience is designed around showing up, slowing down, and discovering what's right here in our Houston backyard. What to Expect: • A guided Edible Plant Hike led by Lake Houston Wilderness Park's naturalist staff • Build your own trail safety kit, assembled and yours to keep • Create a flower stamped bandana using plants • Light snacks and drinks • Good people and good vibes all morning Experience • 9:30am | Welcome & Arrival • 10:00am | Edible Plant Hike • 11:00am | Outdoor Learning • 12:15pm | Sharing and Closeout This is a "pay-what-you-can" experience. Registration is required and includes park entry. What You Receive: • A guided, shaded hike led by a welcoming community member • Time in our indoor creation space • Connection with curious, conscious community members • Light snacks and drinks What We Ask of You: Community Re-Investment Suggestion Scale: $10–$25 BLK Beetles is a fiscally sponsored initiative, and contributions directly support our Collective programming: nature guides, nourishment, supplies, and thoughtful gathering design. Our Refund Policy: No refunds or credits unless the event is canceled. Refunds are not available for illness, including COVID. If the event is rescheduled due to weather or other preventative reasons, donations can be refunded, moved to the new date, or paid forward for future experiences.
