Full description from organizer

Dallas, TX | Laura Rathe Fine Art is pleased to announce Rhythm & Form, a group exhibition featuring new works by Nina Tichava, Lynn Sanders, and Rodrigo Franzao. The opening reception will take place on November 14 from 4:00–7:00 PM at the Dallas Design District location. Nina Tichava and Lynn Sanders will be in attendance. Rhythm & Form brings together three artists whose distinct practices are united by a shared exploration of repetition, pattern, and movement. Through intricate mark-making, fluid applications of pigment, and sculptural arrangements of paper, Tichava, Sanders, and Franzao each develop a visual language of their own. Across their work, individual elements gather momentum, establishing a rhythm that feels both deliberate and organic. In dialogue, their approaches create a visual experience that evolves through subtle shifts in color, material, and form. Nina Tichava creates densely layered mixed-media paintings that pair geometric structure with expressive mark-making. Influenced by architecture, nature, textiles, and design, Tichava combines painting, printmaking, drawing, and collage to construct intricate fields of intersecting lines, grids, and patterns. Thousands of individually applied beads of paint punctuate her compositions, building tactile fields of color and texture that shift as the viewer moves closer. Within this underlying order, variations reveal the artist’s hand, balancing precision with intuition. As marks and materials accumulate, repetition moves beyond ornamentation, bringing texture and dimension across the surface. Lynn Sanders creates abstract compositions defined by transparency, movement, and color, working intuitively with paint, ink, and mixed media. Using a specially designed tool, Sanders sweeps thin applications of pigment across the surface, allowing translucent forms to overlap and interact. As each layer is applied, new shapes and subtle chemical reactions emerge, lending her paintings a remarkable sense of depth. Though the works appear spontaneous, Sanders carefully balances swift gestures with restraint, controlling pressure, opacity, and placement as each painting develops. Translucent passages intersect and recede across the surface as pigment and light continually reshape the composition. Rodrigo Franzao creates dimensional works by layering carefully folded strips of paper across canvas, building rhythm through repetition and material. Drawing from his background in textile art and mixed media, Franzao arranges folded elements into geometric compositions that shift between surface and sculpture. The folds cast patterns of light and shadow, while variations in color, depth, and orientation allow the works to change with the viewer’s perspective. Through this methodical process, Franzao transforms paper into a dynamic structural language, revealing unexpected complexity within a seemingly simple material. Together, Tichava, Sanders, and Franzao reveal how repetition can create both structure and variation. Across layered surfaces, shifting transparencies, and dimensional forms, subtle changes in color, material, and light build upon one another to create a visual cadence. A single mark, gesture, or fold becomes part of a larger whole, revealing that rhythm is found not in any one element, but in the relationships between them. Rhythm & Form will be on view through January 9, 2027.
