Educational Mushroom Walk

This naturalist-led program will provide a thorough introduction to mushrooms and the role fungi play in the ecosystem. Local naturalist and mushroom aficionado Taro Ietaka, former president of the Connecticut-Westchester Mycological Association (COMA) and Assistant Director of Conservation for Westchester County Parks, will teach basic identification skills, offer tips on what mushrooms can be found at this time of year, and discuss the numerous and varied uses for fungi. This program is co-sponsored by Westchester County Parks. The hike is rated moderate due to the uneven terrain, and program content is recommended for ages 5 & up. Sturdy shoes and layers are recommended. Friendly dogs on leash are allowed. Steady rain and other inclement weather cancels. Ward Pound Ridge Reservation is located at Reservation Rd., Pound Ridge, NY 10576. The entrance is off of Route 121/Old Post Rd., just south of Route 35.
