Autism Affirming Therapy (12-16-26) IN PERSON

Presented by Dawn Cooksey, MSSW, LISW-S, ECMHP and Kate Whitehair, MSW, LSW, Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley Autism Affirming Therapy is a therapeutic approach designed to help an individual understand and accept their autism, manage their sensory needs, and learn to self-advocate for appropriate accommodation in their environments. A major goal is also to help the individual learn how to best avoid autistic meltdowns and shutdowns and especially autistic burnout. The goal is not to fix or cure autism and its symptoms, as attempts to suppress or mask non-injurious autism symptoms contributes to autistic burnout. CEUs Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services has been approved by: the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board to offer continuing education credit hours (Provider #RCS111304 and RTX012515) and has approved this training for 2.75 hours (continuing) CEUs; Other licensing boards may also accept these hours, however it is the attendee’s responsibility to establish this prior to attending. **Montgomery County Ohio residents (or those working in the county) and those in the surrounding area will be given preference.
