Fundamentals of Improv: Pattern & Heightening Every big laugh in long-form improv starts with the smallest spark. In this intro course, you’ll learn how to spot those sparks—tiny patterns in dialogue, behavior, or ideas—and then fan them into roaring flames of comedy. Together, we’ll explore how repetition builds rhythm, how heightening raises the stakes, and how teams create memorable scenes by following the funny. This isn’t about being the loudest person on stage—it’s about listening, supporting, and building a world brick by brick (or, more often, joke by joke). By the end, you’ll be primed to recognize opportunities, lean into patterns, and chase ideas all the way to the wildest payoff. Whether you’re brand new to improv or just curious about what happens when play meets precision, this is where your long-form journey begins. Come ready to mess up loudly, laugh at yourself, and (accidentally) stumble into some of the best scenes you’ve ever done. This release of liability applies to you as well as any personal representatives, assigns, heirs, and next of kin. You authorize the company in a medical emergency to seek emergency medical assistance at your expense. CLASS/SESSION CANCELLATION POLICY: When you register for a class/session program, the company and its program contractors depend on your enrollment for a successful program, however, we understand that sometimes your plans may change. If you choose to withdraw from a class/session program, you will receive either a full credit or a full refund will be issued on the original payment method when you cancel at least seven (7) business days prior to the first class meeting. No credits or refunds will be issued for cancellations made within seven (7) business days of the program start date. Cancellations may be made by emailing [email protected], in-person at Superior Improv Co., or by calling the company at 720-491-1162. Refunds will not be issued for programs that are canceled due to circumstances beyond the control of the company; should inclement weather cause either a full or partial cancellation of a class, if feasible the company will work with the program director in making every effort to schedule make-up day(s). Refunds will not be issued for missed days within a session (i.e. participant illnesses, vacations, etc.) and classes cannot be made up. Participants removed from programs due to disciplinary reasons will not receive a refund. If the company has to cancel a session program or workshop class for any reason, you will be notified prior to the start date and have the option to transfer to another program, receive a full credit or a full refund issued on the original payment method. To minimize cancellations, we encourage you to register for programs at least two weeks prior to the program start date. Thank you!
