Just before winter settles over Detroit, The Preservation of Jazz invites audiences into the warmth and intimacy of Aretha’s Jazz Café for an evening devoted to the unmistakable sound of one of Detroit’s most treasured musical voices. Celebrating Anita Baker Born in Toledo and raised in Detroit, Anita Baker became one of the defining voices of contemporary R&B, soul, and quiet storm. Her rich contralto, jazz-influenced phrasing, sophistication, and emotional honesty created a sound unlike anyone else. From “Sweet Love” and “Caught Up in the Rapture” to “Giving You the Best That I Got,” “Angel,” and “You Bring Me Joy,” Baker created a catalog that became the soundtrack to love and romance for generations.
