Join the Colvin Coven in honoring the Pagan holiday where the veil is thinnest, Samhain ️️️️️️️! About Samhain (Sow-in): To the ancient Celts, the year had two “hinges”. These were Beltaine (the first of May) and Samhain, or Samhuinn, (the first of November), which is also the traditional Celtic New Year. These two days are the most magically powerful. During Samhain, it is believed that the veil is thinnest. This idea is one shared by many cultures troughout the world, take The Day of the Dead, for example. No matter your witchy background, this day is a good opportunity to take advantage of the thin veil between worlds for ancestor worship and other ritual! About the Event: In honor of this threshold, the Colvin Coven invites you to join us in community ancestor worship! The event will begin with us building a group altar to honor our ancestors. This can be a relative, friend or pet you have lost (note: we are honoring ancestors of both blood and spirit; those who have made a difference in our lives and who we revere don't have to be blood relatives). We enourage you to bring an object or photo that represents them to place on the altar. Next, we will engage in an ancestor ritual led by witch Carol Ludwick. The activity of the evening will be building ancestor candles to place on your altar at home to use in ancestor magic or worship. Carol will lead us in spellwork to end the night! What Your Ticket Provides: • Facilitation in ancestor ritual and spellwork. • Materials and education around building an altar candle. • Take home educational material. • Witchcraft in community. About our Ritual Host: Carol Ludwick, founder of Acorn to Oak Ceremonies, is a certified lifecycle celebrant who creates custom ceremonies to celebrate milestones, support transitions and honor lives. A storyteller for more than twenty years, she is known for her creative, empathic approach to holding sacred space and encouraging people to root each rite of passage in the story of their lives. Highlights of her services include weddings, memorials, house blessings and community gatherings. "The urge to mark milestones is primal. About Colvin House: A beautifully restored 1920s mansion on Chicago’s lakefront, Colvin House serves as a creative hub and event space dedicated to fostering community and celebrating local history. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Colvin Cafe: We have selection of beverages (sodas, beer, wine and a specialty cocktail) as well as food for sale onsite at Colvin House! Please note that we do not allow outside food or drinks at Colvin Events. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Traveling Info: We are well located for CTA transit, just a couple blocks from the Thorndale Redline stop and two bus stops outside the building. The first 15 cars can park FREE at George B. Swift Elementary School, just two blocks west of Colvin House (as space allows) if there is no other event using the space. Please come to Colvin House's back door (off Thorndale Ave) first to receive a parking permit from staff who will provide further instructions. We also recommend The Malibu Condominiums (6007 N Sheridan) public garage, just across the street, north of Colvin House. This parking can be validated by Colvin House for $2.00 off.
