WICKET Documentary Screening

Join us for the Chicago Premiere of WICKET, an award winning film about legendary breaker Bboy Wicket's journey to rewrite his story. Frameline's Audience Award winner for Best Documentary 2025 comes to Chicago! With legendary battle footage, candid interviews, and raw emotional honesty, WICKET explores world-renowned dancer Bboy Wicket's journey towards self acceptance after 41 years in the closet. San Francisco’s legendary Bboy Wicket, internationally renowned for power moves and flawless footwork, changed the game in the heydays of hip-hop and redefined what it meant to be the best in breakdancing. But the closeted gay man behind the persona, Gabriel Jaochico, wondered, “Did being the best protect me? I don’t think it did. The more popular I got, the more I had to hide.” Bursting with mesmerizing footage of ‘90s dance battles and intimate interviews with Wicket, Flo Master, and other iconic Bboys and Bgirls, this energizing portrait traces Bboy Wicket’s rise to fame, and Gabriel’s struggle with loneliness, isolation, and ultimate decision to come out — no matter the cost. WICKET offers an earnest and joyful story of the transformative power of art, and the power of living as your whole self. Q&A with Bboy Wicket and after party to follow.
