About This Event RIP to the succulents that turned to mush overnight, the ferns that withered in a week, and the pothos that chose high drama over staying green. Join N.C. Cooperative Extension and the Benhaven Branch of Harnett County Libraries for a fun, hands-on "Houseplant Funeral" and interactive plant care workshop designed just for teens and young adults! Whether you have a bedroom full of thriving greenery or a trail of crispy plant casualties behind you, this gathering is for plant lovers of all experience levels. We’re putting poor plant care habits to rest and giving you the research-based secrets to helping your indoor plants actually survive. Bring your burning plant questions, your saddest plant photos, and swap cuttings with other young plant enthusiasts in the community! What We’ll Cover • The "Autopsy" (Houseplant ER): Learn the top reasons indoor plants meet an untimely end—from soil drainage and light levels to overwatering and humidity mistakes. • Plant Doctor Q&A: Bring your photos, questions, or diagnostic mysteries for open troubleshooting with Extension staff and local plant lovers. • The Plant & Propagule Swap: Trade rooted cuttings, potted offsets, or extra plant supplies with other attendees. Plant Swap Guidelines • FREE SWAP ONLY: No cash sales or commercial vending allowed. • Bring a Plant, Take a Plant: Bring healthy, pest-free potted plants, unrooted cuttings, rooted propagules, or extra pots and potting mix. • Label Your Trades: Please label your cuttings with the plant name (if known) and basic light/water requirements! • No Plant? No Problem! Don't worry if you don't have anything to trade yet—come anyway to learn, and take home extra propagules to start your collection! This event is a free, hands-on educational partnership between Benhaven Library and N.C. Cooperative Extension – Lee County Center to inspire and empower young gardeners in our community.
