Russ Gershon Trio brings sax, flute, bass & drums through ballads, freebop, Ethiopian jazz and surprises from a fearless bandleader. Russ Gershon tenor, soprano, alto saxes and flute Rick McLaughlin, acoustic bass Brooke Sofferman, drums Saxophonist and composer Russ Gershon is best known for founding and leading the Grammy-nominated Either/Orchestra through a dozen albums and many international tours over the last forty years. He has also played in or led numerous other bands, ranging from Hypnosonics – with the late Morphine frontman Mark Sandman – to the popular Latin Bugalu band Lookie Lookie. The RG3 brings his playing, arranging and storytelling skills to the intimate trio format, joined by Either/Orchestra bassist and drummer, Rick McLaughlin and Brooke Sofferman, both bandleaders in their own right. Repertoire ranges across the jazz spectrum, from traditional tenor sax ballads to freebop, with a sprinkling of the Ethiopian jazz that the E/O has been playing for thirty years – long ahead of the crowd . Also unexpected selections from sources like the Monkees and Richard Thompson. Gershon even sings a tune now and then. You never know what’s coming next...
