MEET THE ARTISTS Ricardo Rubí – Guitar Ricardo Rubí is a guitarist, composer and arranger working where flamenco, jazz and contemporary composition meet. Born in Rome in 1994, he earned top marks in jazz guitar at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia. He studied flamenco with masters Manuel Montero Miranda, José Antonio Rodríguez and Carlos de Jacoba. His big band work Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde took First Prize at the Barga Jazz International Composition Competition. He has toured Spain with a flamenco tribute to Miguel Hernández, joined the cast of Madrid’s Essential Flamenco tablao, and scored Nozze di Sangue, a Lorca adaptation starring Lina Sastri. In 2022 he played the Texas Flamenco Festival at Dallas’s Majestic Theater alongside Jorge Pardo. Today he lives in Granada, where he performs daily in the city’s leading tablaos. His 2024 debut album, Ricardo Rubí, produced by Carlos de Jacoba, marks him as a distinctive voice in flamenco’s new generation. Pedro Lattouf – Vocals & Guitar Flamenco fire, Latin soul, rock ’n’ roll heart. Venezuelan-born singer and guitarist Pedro Lattouf turns every show into a party you won’t forget. One moment it’s a smoldering romantic ballad. The next it’s a classic rock anthem, a flamenco flourish or a world-music groove. With a warm voice, dazzling guitar and charisma to spare, he reads the room and takes it exactly where it wants to go. Julia Alcántara – Director, Vocals & Dance A Texas native, Julia Alcántara is a dancer, choreographer and producer who has championed flamenco in Dallas since 1998. She trained at the University of New Mexico. She is the artistic and executive director of Ida y Vuelta / Flamenco Fever and founder of the Texas Flamenco Festival. She has danced in The Dallas Opera’s La Vida Breve, at San Francisco’s Palace Theater and at World Cup opening ceremonies. Her company was the first American flamenco company invited to Málaga’s International Festival. Charles “Luckie” Johnson – Guitar, Percussion & Dance Known on stage as Luckie “El Abejorro,” Charles Johnson is a key artist with Dallas’s Flamenco Fever. He performs as a guitarist, dancer, backup singer and percussionist, and teaches flamenco guitar for the company. He has shared the stage with Julia Alcántara and international guests from Spain and Argentina. His rhythm and versatility drive the heartbeat of every show. Jamal Mohamed – Percussion Lebanese-born master percussionist Jamal Mohamed is a Dallas legend. He has performed with Sting, Mark O’Connor, Toumani Diabaté, Giovanni Hidalgo and many other well-known artists. A virtuoso on the doumbek, the Arabic goblet drum, he brings innovative jazz and Latin styles to this ancient instrument. Toca Percussion even makes a line of “Jamal” signature drums. As a founding member of the award-winning percussion group D’Drum, he collaborated with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame drummer Stewart Copeland of the Police and the Dallas Symphony. He teaches percussion at SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts and leads his own world music group, the Jamal Mohamed Ensemble.
