Full description from organizer

A music program inviting kids to listen, learn, and explore with D-Composed and trombonist Robyn Smith. We're pleased to invite you to an afternoon of music at The Land School on Tuesday, February 6, from 2 PM to 3 PM. In partnership with Harris Theater and our creative partner, D-Composed, we're excited to host Kids Meet the Music, a program for children ages 4-11 that introduces young audiences to the work of composers through engaging musical performances by Chicago-based musicians. This performance invites young listeners to slide, soar, and rumble alongside trombonist Robyn Smith, Principal Trombonist of the Chicago Sinfonietta, as she explores one of the brass family’s most playful instruments. Joined by her friends from D-Composed, Smith will guide audiences through a lively program spanning styles and genres, showcasing the trombone’s expressive range and celebrating Black musical excellence. Designed to encourage curiosity and movement, the program invites children to experience the music in their own way, whether sitting up close on rugs on the floor of The Land School’s Auditorium or in designated rows of seating. These performances extend the slate of Kids Meet the Music programs at Harris Theater to the South Side. Visit the Harris Theater website for more information. Tickets for this program are free. We kindly ask participants to consider offering a suggested donation of $10 to help us sustain our ability to provide these spaces and programs for all. Can't make it to The Land School? You can see this performance of D-Composed with Robyn Smith at the Harris Theater on Saturday, March 6, 2027 / 2:00 PM. Tickets at the Harris Theater are $5 kids / $15 adults. Visit the link here. Photo: Chris Strong About D-Composed Historians of art and culture may not currently take into full account that Black culture and creativity are a part of every musical institution's foundation that we currently see today. D-Composed, a Black chamber music collective, exists to ensure that we never forget it. Led by their mission to uplift and empower society through the music of Black composers, this Chicago-based creative incubator serves as a bridge between the past and the present, connecting to the future of representation, music-centered experiences, and the communal power of Black composers and their lasting impact. For this collective, music evolves entertainment becoming a storytelling tool that educates and inspires. D–COMPOSED /DEE-KUHM-POHZD/ – ADVERB - Our creative process that involves the breaking down of preconceived notions, barriers, and opinions of what people think classical music should be to re-writing our own narrative to reflect what the classical world could be. Instagram ____ D-Composed is an inaugural creative partner-in-residence at The Land School.
