You don’t. Contemporary Dance: The Essentials is designed specifically for adults who are curious about dance, new to contemporary movement, or ready to return after time away. At Armentality Arts Center, we believe learning to dance is about more than memorizing steps. It is about developing the tools to move with greater confidence, awareness, creativity, and freedom. This weekly class brings together two essential sides of contemporary dance through an alternating rotation: TECHNIQUE with Kaylee Koslowske Build a strong foundation through alignment, coordination, floorwork, musicality, and accessible movement phrases. You’ll develop practical dance skills while becoming more comfortable and confident in your body. IMPROVISATION with Elisa Besteman Explore guided movement exercises that awaken creativity, instinct, musicality, and personal expression. There is no choreography to “get right.” Instead, you’ll discover new ways of moving and begin developing your own movement voice. One week, you build the tools. The next, you discover what you can create with them. Together, technique and improvisation offer an intelligent, approachable introduction to contemporary dance that builds both physical skill and creative confidence.
