Recognizing Women Veterans on PA House Floor

Our esteemed Speaker of the House has extended a generous invitation to women veterans from Philadelphia to be honored on the House Floor! We are invited to visit the Capitol on Monday, November 9, 2026, as guests of Speaker Joanna McClinton. You and the group will be recognized on the House Floor during session that begins at NOON. Please let us know what time you plan to arrive so that Shauna Mosley (Speaker McClinton's scheduler who is cc'd here) may get you scheduled to meet briefly with prior to going to the House Floor. Please forward us the following information: 1. Time of arrival at the Capitol; 2. Number of guests in your group (please limit to approximately 50 as we discussed); 3. The names of each member in your group; 4. Lunch will be provided. Are there any food allergies that should be considered; 5. Are there any accessibility issues that need to be accommodated; and 6. Time of departure from the Capitol As we discussed, session begins at noon and we like our guests to be seated by 11:45 am. Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, announced that her legislation to require additional trainings and certifications for county veteran assistance directors regarding trauma-informed care, including military sexual trauma (MST), has advanced out of the state Senate with a unanimous vote. House Bill 2024 ensures that the Commonwealth’s county veteran assistance directors are best equipped to meet the post-service needs of the state’s veterans. Shusterman said these requirements come at the suggestion of the Commonwealth’s Women Veterans Health Care Task Force. “With nearly 700,000 veterans living in our Commonwealth, it’s incredibly important that our legislative body continues our bipartisan work to honor and support our veterans,” Shusterman said. “As with other forms of trauma, survivors of MST live with their experiences in different ways, and their mental and physical health may be significantly affected for years to come. It is imperative to ensure the resources and support we provide to them is effective. “I extend my appreciation to my co-prime sponsor Rep. Scheuren and Chair Solomon from the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee. Their support and guidance have helped promote awareness and bipartisanship around this bill.
