These iconic knives help to create meals for family and loved ones. Well-made kitchen knives last a lifetime and this class will give you the opportunity to create one of your very own. In this three-day class students will make their own chef’s knife from pattern welded high carbon steel. All aspects of bladesmithing will be covered, from pattern welding the billet to forging the blade to shaping, then heat treating, grinding and polishing, making and fitting a wooden handle and finally, sharpening – with very special attention given to the design and geometry of this kind of knife. This class is intended as an introductory bladesmithing class, but some forging experience is helpful. Students will forge, grind, heat treat and sharpen a carbon steel chef knife with a mahogany hidden tang handle. You must be 18 years or older to attend this class. Refund Policy: Students who withdraw from a class up to two weeks before the class are eligible for a full refund less any transaction fees. Additional Information: • The class breaks for an hour lunch. You are welcome to bring your lunch or plan to grab something at one of the many local lunch spots. The instructor will be able to assist. Also, plan to bring a water bottle - classes are physically demanding. • Wear appropriate clothing, preferably cotton, and close toed leather shoes or boots. • Safety glasses will be provided. Gloves are available but not recommended.
