People Of The West

Ten episodes reclaim California history through Native voices, exploring colonization, resistance, sovereignty, survival, and stewardship. *Viewer discretion is advised, as this series addresses sensitive and emotionally impactful topics related to Native American history, colonization, cultural loss, and intergenerational experiences.* CINC is proud to host an educational screening of People of the West, a groundbreaking documentary series exploring Native California history, cultural heritage, resilience, and contemporary challenges. Through authentic Indigenous perspectives, the screening aims to deepen understanding of California’s Native communities, challenge historical misconceptions, and bring overlooked stories to light. These educational screenings are primarily intended for students in grades 9–12, community colleges, and universities. By incorporating the documentary into educational settings, CINC seeks to promote culturally informed learning, encourage critical examination of California history, and foster a deeper appreciation for Native American cultures, histories, and enduring contributions. Created through a partnership of Native and non-Native filmmakers, the series features intimate interviews, archival footage, and stunning cinematography. The visionary team includes Creator and Executive Producer Brad Munoa (Pechanga Band of Indians/Payómkawichum), alongside a talented group of filmmakers committed to meaningful Indigenous storytelling. Pechanga Studios and Boardwalk Pictures made the series project possible through their generous support.
