Ancestral Remembrance & Celebration Date: Sunday, November 1st Time: 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM Location: The Leeward Portal Join us for a heart-centered multicultural community gathering dedicated to honoring, remembering, and celebrating those who walked before us. Reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of Hawaiʻi—blending Hawaiian, Asian, and Mexican traditions—we come together to honor the lineage of ALL anestors. Rather than mourning in silence, this afternoon is designed to bring our ancestors vibrantly back to life through storytelling, shared food, and communal presence. In many traditions, death is not the end of a relationship, but a continuation. By setting a place at our table and speaking their names aloud, we weave our past and present together in gratitude. What to Bring • Photos & Mementos: Please bring photographs, small keepsakes, or meaningful items to place on our collective altar table during the gathering. • A Dish to Share: We will break bread together! Bring your ancestors favorite dish, snack, or drink to share as part of our celebratory feast. We invite you to bring your ancestors' favorite dish, snack, or drink. (Plant-based and all-inclusive options are warmly welcomed). This is a non alcoholic event. • An Open Heart & A Story: Come prepared to share a brief story, memory, or quality of an ancestor, elder, or beloved guide you wish to honor. Flow of the Event • 12:30 PM – 12:50 PM: Arrival, community grounding, and placing photos on the communal altar. • 12:50 PM – 1:30 PM: Feast and storytelling circle—passing the plate and sharing memories that bring our ancestors back to the table with us. • 1:30 PM – 2:00 PM: Closing reflection, gratitude practice, and quiet integration. Community Guidelines & Energy Exchange We invite you to arrive with an open mind, an open heart, and a willingness to participate in a space of mutual respect, compassion, and unity. Our intention is to create a supportive environment where ALL are welcome. The Leeward Portal is a faith-based 501(c)(3) non-profit sanctuary. To honor the time, energy, and resources required to hold space, we ask for a $1.11 fee to reserve your RSVP spot. This small deposit helps us accurately prepare for each gathering and fosters a conscious commitment to attendance. Our events operate on a sliding-scale donation basis. All contributions directly sustain the mission, sanctuary space, and community programs of our non-profit. Parking Information The Portal has 6 parking spots. Additional parking is accessible throughout the neighborhood, and Kaukama Rd has plenty of free parking and is a quick 7-minute walk from the event space.
