Full description from organizer

Get into the “weeds” of Hawaiʻi’s food system with scientists, policy advocates, growers, and agribusiness owners. What does it really take to grow food and build a business around it in Hawaiʻi? Join ʻŌhiʻa PALs for Taking Root: Food Systems Field Day, a hands-on afternoon with experts working across Hawaiʻi’s food system: scientists, policy advocates, growers, and agribusiness owners. Together, we’ll dig into the “weeds” of farming and running an agribusiness, from the everyday challenges to the opportunities for building a more resilient, thriving food system for the islands. This isn’t a tabling event. You’ll join small-group discussions where you can ask questions, swap ideas, and hear firsthand from the people doing the work. Then we’ll head outside for a hands-on planting activity and a community cleanup around Magoon. Whether you’re thinking about an ag-focused venture, gearing up for the ʻŌhiʻa PALs Food Systems Hackathon, or just curious about where your food comes from, this is your chance to get grounded in the real story. What to expect: 🌱 Small-group discussions with food systems experts 🌿 Hands-on planting activity 🧤 Community cleanup around Magoon Event Details: 📅 Sunday, November 22, 2026 🕓 10 AM - 2 PM 📍 Magoon Research Station 👟 Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. 🎟️ Free and open to all UH students, staff, faculty and community.
