Wahi Pana: Hanauma Bay Snorkel Tour

Join kekahi wahi and members of SnorkelClub for a guided community snorkel at Hanauma Bay. Developed alongside the short film Hanauma: He Wahi Loli Mau, (2025), this experience invites experienced ocean swimmers to reconnect with the stories, environment, and living systems of Maunalua. • Wahi Pana Snorkel Tour • Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve • Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026 • Time: 7:00–10:00 AM Participants will complete a short pre-dive reflection, gather for orientation and kilo (observation), then enter the water for a guided snorkel. The experience closes with a shared discussion focused on stewardship and care. • Limited to 6 participants • Film viewing is required before the dive Hanauma: He Wahi Loli Mau, (2025) • Bring your own snorkel gear This gathering will recur every 3–4 months and is designed to strengthen community relationships to this important wahi pana. Register early—space is very limited. -- To participate in this event, all members must comply with Hanauma Bay Nature Reserve Rules: 1) All visitors will be required to watch the educational video in the theatre for each visit to HBAY. Previous viewing of the video will not preclude visitors from skipping this step. 2) Hawai‘i residents (kama‘āina) with valid photo identification may access HBAY for free and without a reservation during public hours of operation. This does not apply to non-Hawai‘i residents accompanied by kama‘āina or military members without Hawai‘i identification (Hawai‘i State ID or Hawai‘i Driver’s License). However, U.S. military servicemembers and their dependents get free entry with their military identification. Acceptable proof of Hawai‘i residency includes current: Hawai‘i Driver’s License, Hawai‘i State ID, or Hawai‘i School Student ID. For non-Hawai‘i residents, payment is required and reservations are highly recommended to visit HBAY. Children 12 years old and younger may enter for free, regardless of residency, though a reservation is recommended utilizing the Parks and Recreation Online System (PROS) or through Roberts Hawai‘i. -- Wahi Pana: Storied Places is a temporary public art project of the City and County of Honolulu's Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts (MOCA) and is a winner of the Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Public Art Challenge grant.
