The Blackout (Sundays 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM)

Come learn The Blackout! The Blackout form is a unique take on improv that consists of a non-stop series of loosely related scenes. Explore a form focused on the subtle moments of improv. The Blackout is a series of loosely-related vignettes that play out as snapshots from a play more than improvisational comedy. In this form study, we peel away the layers of expectation around improv and narrow in on the essence of two-person scenes. By the end of the class, you should have a new understanding on how an audience views improv and how we, as performers, can utilize those expectations to create something new. This form was originally created by Louis Kornfeld. Dates: The class runs Sundays, starting 10/25/2026 and running for 4 classes, skipping the week of 11/8. Classes will take place on: 10/25, 11/01, 11/15, and 11/23. Instructor: Ash Bhatnagar Ash Bhatnagar saw Whose Line is it Anyway? growing up and thought, “That can’t be too hard.” He was wrong, but he still loves doing it. Ash has been performing for two years. He recently completed a year on the house team babybangs and is now experimenting with different forms and producing shows. When he’s not doing improv, he can be found playing D&D and pointing out dogs he sees while driving around Richmond. Prerequisites: Improv 101 and 201, or equivalent classes at a comparable institution. Email [email protected] with questions.
