Clarifying the way human and artificial intelligence are thought. One-Day Workshop | 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM Key performance indicators (KPIs) • Elucidation of (a) human intelligence, (b) artificial intelligence (AI), and (c) the difference between them. • Improved efficacy developing AI systems through clarification of the human phenomena specified for encoding. Task Questions about AI — regardless its iteration, current or envisaged — are not principally about the technology. More fundamentally, they express a basic impulse to understand the essential meaning of human intelligence and its relation to the human “to be.” Although the shortages implied by the difference are profoundly human ones, their effects are also technological. Confusion about the essential meaning of human intelligence risks steering efforts to encode it into suboptimal trajectories correlated with key business metrics, including increased costs, extended development, and reduced competitiveness. Response The workshoip lays out the case to supersede the “artificial intelligence” sobriquet with “dark intelligence” to mitigate apparent presuppositions belying the technology and clarify the way AI is thought. The workshop: • Reduces AI to its basic statistical processes. • Exhibits the essential meaning of human intelligence — which is inceptually affiliated with “light” (φῶς), “visibility” (φαίνω), and “saying” (φήμη) — over against core AI processes. • Discerns the interpretive constraints associated with thinking AI and a hypothesized “singularity” (AI Boltzmann Brain) as allowed by the statistical formulation of entropy (S = k ln W). • Posits the operational effects of supplanting the “AI” moniker. Method Best teaching practices are employed. They include discovery sessions, learning exercises, knowledge checks, and the exhibition of fundamental processes. Delivery follows the adult learning principles established in the US Army Common Faculty Development - Instructor Course (CFD-IC). Dr. Trujillo received his 108-hour CFD-IC certification in 2019. Sigetic CEO/CTO Joaquin Trujillo is a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Operations Officer and holds a PhD in Sociology from Florida International University (FIU). He regularly coaches military staff in team, leadership, communication, and high-reliability processes requisite to enterprise success. Basic elements of this work carry over to Sigetic cognitive training workshops for corporate clients and are enhanced by his scientific research. Dr. Trujillo's methodological expertise — as evinced by his 30-plus peer reviewed publications — comprises phenomenology, cybernetics, cognitive analysis, existential psychotherapy, and ethnography. His scientific work renders basic human phenomena in advanced technologies, including AI, and high risk systems.
