Computing with Fractions & Decimals: Strategies for Building Proficiency

Bridge the gap to fractions and decimals! Use Indiana standards and high-impact strategies to build 3-5 math proficiency for all learners. How do we help students bridge the gap between whole number operations and the often-confusing world of fractions and decimals? This workshop provides a comprehensive look at the progression of fraction and decimal computation across the 3–5 landscape. We will dive deep into the Concrete-Representation-Abstract (CRA) model (also recognized as CSA) and the 5 Mathematical Representations to ensure students aren't just memorizing rules and "tricks," but building a deep-rooted conceptual understanding of fraction and decimal operations. By mapping these models directly to the Indiana Academic Standards, participants will learn how to identify exactly where a student’s understanding is breaking down—from early partitioning to multi-digit decimal operations. We will use the progression of learning to design targeted, Tier 1 instruction and high-impact interventions that move students forward, ensuring proficiency for every learner at every tier. Cancellation Policy Cancellations made before the payment settles (usually within 24 hours) will be 100% refunded. Cancellations made 7 calendar days or more in advance of the event date, will receive a 90% refund. Cancellations made less than 7 days of the event will receive a 75% refund. Any cancellation made on the day of or after will NOT receive a refund. In-Person Events Please note this event will be held in person.
