Journey through the music that tells America’s story—from its landscapes and struggles to its triumphs and traditions. Experience an inspiring afternoon of music celebrating the people, places, and stories that have shaped America. The American Journey explores our nation’s landscapes, history, traditions, and spirit through powerful orchestral works by some of America’s most celebrated composers, alongside voices that continue to shape our musical heritage. From sweeping prairies and legendary heroes to iconic moments in American culture, this program offers something for audiences of all ages. The concert features music by Aaron Copland, Florence Price, Virgil Thomson, Edward MacDowell, Soon Hee Newbold, Robert Wendel, and a symphonic suite from Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda (arr. Brubaker). Whether you’re a longtime classical music lover or attending your first orchestra concert, you’ll enjoy an afternoon filled with memorable melodies and rich storytelling. About the Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville Our Mission is to create an extraordinary music experience that realizes the potential of our musicians and illuminates the power of collective effort. Founded in 2016, the Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville is a 501(C)3 not-for-profit volunteer classical music orchestra. Members donate their time and talents to cultivate classical music connoisseurship through education, performance and collaborative programing. Civic Orchestra concerts are free and open to all.
